Remove Broken (Dead) Links from Google Search

Broken or dead links: The links which redirects to 404 error page are considered as broken or dead links. It is better to fix those broken links in blogs. Two methods are there to fix broken links in blog/website. First one is redirect the error page to some other page(Home page) and second method is just delete those broken links of your blog from search engines. This posts will help you to remove broken or dead links in your blog from Google search results.

How to remove broken or dead links in your blog from Google search results:

Use Google Search Console (Google webmaster tool) to remove broken links from Google search results. Before going to remove first submit your blog site map to Google Search Console if you already not submitted. Google bot crawl your blog after submitting your blog sitemap to Google search console. It will lists all broken links under crawl errors in Google search console.

How to see broken links : 
  • Sign in to Google Search Console (Google webmaster tool)
  • Click on crawl errors.
  • Now you can see all broken links under crawl errors
To check whether those links really dead or not, copy one of the broken link below crawl errors and go to Google search engine and paste that link and search and open that link. If it is really dead then it will redirect to 404 error page .

Follow below steps to remove broken links from Google search


Step 1 : Log in to your Google webmaster tool(Google Search Console)

Step 2 : Click on your blog

Step 3 : Click on Google index button and click on Remove URLs

Step 4 : Click on Create a new removal request
              Now enter broken link in that box

Step 5 : Click on Continue button.

After few hours your submitted link (broken link) will remove from Google search results. Like this you can remove broken links of your blog from Google search engine manually.
